Grey bedding sets – While the beds down can be washed, it must be done correctly. Washing down will remove dust, animal dander, body oils and allergens that accumulate over time. If you give your quilts, quilts and mattress pillows the proper care, they can last 20 years or more. Before washing the bedding, always read the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions on the care label.
Bottom bedding should be washed only in a large capacity front loading washing machine. If you do not have one, use a machine in a laundry. Some top loading machines have large capacities, but the agitator on this type of machine can damage the grey bedding sets. Using the gentle cycle of the machine, wash the bedding in hot water and non-mild chlorine detergent. Run the bedding through the spin cycle a second time to remove as much moisture as possible.
Drying by bedding thoroughly is essential to prevent the growth of mold. Using a large capacity dryer, dry the grey bedding sets in a low heat setting; High heat can create hot spots and can burn the bedding. Add two or three clean tennis balls or white cloth sneakers to help speed up the drying and to return the fluff from the groups below. It is likely to take a couple of hours to completely dry the grey bedding sets, so remove the item and shake every 20 to 30 minutes.
